Stephen A isn't stupid. He knows they let go of Watt because they won't get much for him in trade. He also knows Watsun is a huge coin to spend in the NFL market. Stephen A is a shock jock now. That's where his worth lies and he isn't a sports reporter anymore or a journalist.

I wish people would stop pushing this qb's are everything and you can't win without one; Denver, Tampa's 1st, and Baltimore's 1st championships all won with bad qbs. Love Watson, I just hate this narrative. For a long time it was rb's who were thought of that way.

I understand Stephen A's position on this, but I think he's wrong. Simply put, Watson is arguably a lower end top 5 QB and they don't want to let him have the upper hand and they don't want to give him away. He has a lot of value.

Arguably! Only casuals think Deshaun Watson isn't a top 5 QB anybody that knows football would at worst rank Deshaun Watson 4th behind Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes.

I think in this case, time will tell. I think releasing Watt freed up 17 million or so. I don’t think Watt gets 17 mill plus per year in any other organization. So if they traded him, it would have to be to a team that had every thing else, and for what, a 3rd round pick plus the contract?
I don’t know how much is guaranteed for Deshaun Watson. But, the market is hot for such a qb. The Texans will probably mismanage this. They probably want to draft cheap rookies to help Watson get to a super bowl, but they probably never told Watson their plans. Watson has felt alienated for a while. But the Texans think they can get 3 first rounders for him hopefully all within 1-2 years.

Stephen A Smith, you should be ashamed of yourself with your take on this subject. Deshaun is a young cat who is elite and may not have even hit his prime yet. JJ Watt is in the twilight of his career and has one or MAYBE two years left. JJ would be paid $17.5M next season if on the roster. JJ is not playing at the $17.5M level. Lastly, you neglect to mention the financial mess that Bill O’Brien left behind. You should educate yourself on the subject before spewing nonsense.

No. The argument is that JJ Watt had 5 sacks in his last 16 games, and he was on the last year of his contract. No one was going to trade for that. Watt isn’t going to make the same amount on his new contract that he would have made in the last year of his Houston contract. That’s what it is.

Black man or white man... If he doesn't want to be there trade him. So what if you signed him to a new contract. Texans wont be hooked fir that money. If anyone played organized sports. You do not want anyone in the locker room who dont want to be there. Youre setting the team up for failure

JJ Watt is old (for a D lineman) and injury prone... career basically over. Watson is young, strong, a great player, AND just signed a huge contract. Steven A pulls the race card waaaay too much. I wouldnt trade Watson either! He got paaaaid, now f-ing play!

As black man I'm sorry this is why they say we always crying wolf. To insinuate that some people could see this as a race issue. To why they kept deshaun and let jj go is flat out shameful. Any person who consistently watches football knows why jj was able to walk and not deshaun.

@Alex Nious facts my dude, Deshaun is a 25 year old future HOFer anyone with a brain tries to keep him unless they trade him for 3 1st, and a star/future star. Also JJ Watt did everything for the franchise, and who's career is heading torward its tail end. If he wanted to leave even the least competent franchise in all of American sports (Lions? Jets? Texans? Timberwolves? Kings?) would do without thinking twice

I understand your point and agree to an extent but yall care to much about what people think. If people wanna generalize, so be it. Do your best to be you and if somebody else can’t understand that...who are they? Also, this could very easily be that a QB isn’t as expendable as a DE. A younger player isn’t as expendable as an aging player. And once you’ve gave everything to a franchise they’re more likely to grant your wish and treat you better. However the optics are the optics, some could also say they’re not treating him as good Bc of race but I doubt it.

“There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Black race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Black to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”  Booker T. Washington

Im black unapologetically black and even i know this aint about race. Had jj watt asked to be released when he was 25yrs old 5 months after taking 100 million from the texans they wouldn't had let him out. But he's well passed his prime no longer the same player so they let him out. You can't compare

Terell Owens said to him that he is not black enough and Max is blacker than him after Stephen A accused Kaepernick of lying about the workouts(according to Stephen As sources).Stephen A recieved death threats and even took a major backlash from the social media and fans so from then he made everything about race so he can look more acceptable in the eyes of the black community and not a traitor. He goes over the board and its easily seen that he fakes it.He wants to fix his pro black image and now everything more than ever before-he makes it about race and a contraversy. He wasnt like this before the Terrell Owens comments. He never race baited quite like this so its easily seen that its faked a bit by him to make him look better in the eyes of black people and now he goes over the top everytime blaming a white person for racism no matter the situation.I personally dont think Stephen A is a racist (racist is a person who hates people because of their colour).

No one was going to take on $17.5M for JJ Watt. The Texans were not going to retain him at the price. I guess a case could be made for some trade value from absorbing a significant portion of the contract and trading away the remainder for a lower round draft pick, but is it worth the trouble?

Wow...they're really reaching. One guy has been with the team years, is considerably older, becoming injury prone, has gone from never missing a game his first few seasons to averaging 9 and a bit his last 5. While JJ is still very good he is clearly on the decline. Deshaun meanwhile, on the open market, is probably the second most valuable commodity in the entire league behind Patrick Mahomes. They are nothing alike. JJ Watt isn't an elite player at this point and will not net you anywhere near the same draft capital.

It doesnt matree whether they are elite or not.Since Terell Owens said that Stephen A isnt black enough-he will always make it a race issue from now on to make himself more acceptable in the black community and look more black. He is now going over the board
